Boots on Ground
Boots On Ground (BOG) was founded by Veterans and family members in 2014 to address issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and the prevalence of suicide in the military and prior-military population in Erie County.
We have lost over 88,000 veterans and active duty members to suicide between 2001 - 2013. We lose 22 veterans and 3 active duty members each day!
Initially a small volunteer based organization, BOG became a resource for speaking out about the serious impact of PTSD and depression among veterans and their family members through sharing of personal stories and identifying a need for community support especially peer based offerings. We emphasized how important relationships between vets are to effectively address the devastation of these all too common disorders as vets re-entered their civilian lives.
Through speaking events and outreach, BOG volunteers established relationships with a variety of military and ex-military individuals and families trying to cope with serious mental health issues directly related to the military experiences.
U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
The principal Toys for Tots activity which takes place each year is the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located. In communities without a Reserve Unit, the campaign can be conducted by a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toys and monetary donations.

We can always use a helping hand. This event is large, and has a lot of action, and plenty to jump in and help with.
Boots on Ground is a local agency that helps our Veterans and Troops and Mission 22 is a foundation that goes beyond Erie and into a National level.
Mission 22 is a non-profit who combats the ever-rising Veteran Suicide rate, more than 20+ Veterans are lost to suicide each day. Mission 22 is fighting to bring that number to 0.
We do this with 3 main programs:
Veteran Treatment Programs, Memorials honoring our lost Veterans and National (community) Awareness! (all of our treatment programs for our Veterans are funded for them via donations to Mission22.)
Mission 22 Provides treatment programs for Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain injuries and other issues they might be facing.
